Materials, Manufacturing & Technology (MM&T) runs March 28 – 30, 2012, in Hong Kong. Members of the global leather industry are expected to attend the sector’s largest and most important event.
The substantial increase in pre-event registrations compared to last year suggests a rise in buyer turnout in the exhibition that is held in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wanchai, the heart of Hong Kong’s commercial and entertainment area.
Some 1,200 plus top-quality exhibitors, from 51 countries and regions, make this the most international of all leather fairs. Since inception in 1984, MM&T has become the premier leather-sourcing platform, covering the entire spectrum of the industry, from raw and finished skins, dyes and chemicals, to equipment and processes.
To better serve the ever changing demands of the global fashion industry, MM&T has expanded its scope to include man-made and natural materials as well as components and accessories for use with bags, footwear, small leathergoods, leather garments, and fashion accessories.
Focus on Turkey
Turkey will be the Focus Country for the March 2012 MM&T event. The country is well respected within the leather industry for the quality of their raw materials, production standards, and design capability. Forty-three (43) of Turkey’s best known companies, in the fields of leather tanning and production will be represented, alongside those prominent in end-user and fashion production.
Sourcing Luxury
In the last few years many industries have watched as buyers, both trade and retail level consumers, spend with greater caution and consideration than before. The consumer is investing in good quality designs and buying more timeless products to ensure value for money. They want simplicity and pure, natural materials. They are interested in handcrafting and tradition; showing a preference for products that are worked with a high standard of craft skills.
With these trends in mind, MM&T will be launching Sourcing Luxury, a programme that responds actively to the upscale and unique luxury materials requirements of consumers. Sourcing Luxury will permit buyers access to the high-end materials they seek but rarely find.
Collocated Fashion Events
MM&T runs alongside two other APLF events: Fashion Access, the “One-Stop Shop” for head-to-toe fashion, and Prime Source Forum (PSF), where industry leaders in the global apparel and footwear business discuss their industries’ current issues and challenges.
PSF is an unique event in that it brings together, in a spirit of ‘win-win’ and co-operation in dealing with problems affecting all within the industry, participants who – in the normal course of events – meet each other only as adversaries and competitors.
